Victoria Falls, in two words, was “something else!” We flew to the Falls from Durban and were billeted in the Elephant Hills Hotel on the Zimbabwe side (Shown at the lower left). First day out: the always present ‘rainbow photo’ opportunity; the meandering along the misty rim; Dorey and “Jenks” Jenkins at “Danger Point; and “Danger Point” itself. A postcard ‘aerial view’ is shown followed by a photo of the bridge we walked over from Zimbabwe to Zambia. Clearing Zambian Customs with minimum tribute we walked past the Zambesi International Hotel where we bought the necessary postcards. In the third row of photos, our group of eight is shown crossing the Calico Quarter Bridge, a necessary action if one is to view the Zambian side of Victoria Falls. Can you spot the CLUB 44 “tourist” in the second snapshot? Unique interlopers on our walk on the Zambian side were the many wild baboons who, fortunately, would have nothing to do with us . . Before cabbing back to the hotel, we paused to visit a Craft Village and view the only native Zambians we saw on the tour. (The Zambian Customs officials were NOT natives). Back at the farm, a truly posh hotel – some of us snacked (the Sigetys); some of us golfed (Jenks, Jack Brennan, Dick Evans, and Rob Sigety), and some of us dunked in the triple cascading pool (Dotty & Art). Others not shown frequented the casino and boutiques. |
