On our second day in Umfolozi Park, we visited the Mountain Retreat, a watering hole for itinerant, thirsty tourists and were then taken to a native village where we enjoyed a large cast, authentic series of war dances. This was followed by a very pacific luncheon in the same village.

After lunch, we experienced two things: more rainfall and an interesting cruise on the Xxxxxxxx River. Photos of many hippos and the rare xxxxx crane are shown interspersed with those of Harold and June Parker, “Jenks” and Dorey Jenkins, and Kit Sigety.

On our return, Charlie Sigety welcomed us at the Tree House entry and after hearing “Mess Call” on the game park’s kingsize drum, we eagerly partook of their mixed African-European fare. It turned out to be an evening of song: The Tree House kitchen staff serenaded us and later that evening we serenaded ourselves with the “Evening Song.”
