Time to safari! We packed our 64 bags about 30 of which are shown at the Cape Town airport as are Kit and Charlie Sigety (lower left) awaiting their boarding call. Our CLUB 44 contingent flew some XXX miles by SAA twin-engine B112 aircraft to Skukusa, the entry airport to the Kreuger National Park. At Skukusa, we were met by Thornybush staff members and five vans that sped us some 80 kilometers to our private Game Reserve. I say “private” because we were 32 in number and the Thornybush only accommodated 34 guests in the 17 available hutments. We were told that one hutment was always held open for the pilot and co-pilot who brought in a charter group. On our arrival at the camp (lower right), we were greeted by the Boss Man who introduced us to our individual safari guides – all very personable young men who easily charmed our ladies. What’s not shown is the Main Lodge “Welcome!” that followed - the one with the tall, cool drinks. |
